The Internet can be useful tool for keeping healthy and finding answers to health problems. It can't replace professional medical advice, but it can certainly support it.

Following is a list of articles and resources to help you understand various diseases and illnesses. Various diseases have support groups to help patients and we include some of these to help you.

Search MEDLINEplus:   

 This search connects you with many health related organizations and a database of full-text drug information and an illustrated medical encyclopaedia. (Note The site is American so local references or resources may not be relevant; the medical information, however, is universal.)

Vic Net has a health page covering various conditions.

Ongoing Conditions

The Allergy and Environmental Sensitivity Support and Research Association Inc. (AESSRA) provides information about treatment, services, products and support for people with allergies and sensitivities to foods, chemicals and other substances. 

ARTICLE: Asthma is explained in order to help those unsure of what it is and what it means to asthma patients.

Health Insite is an initiative from the Australian Department of Health and Aging providing easy access to quality information about human health.

The Australian Lung Foundation has a resource page for people with Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) and their carers. General information on this disease is also available here.

Asthma Queensland and Asthma Victoria provide a lot of information and resources about what asthma is and how best to care for anyone with asthma.

Cancer Council Australia is Australia's national non-government cancer control organization. The site has information on cancer and cancer prevention. The state members are ACT, NSWQueensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.

Lung Net is The Australian Lung Foundation's Guide to Lung Health and Respiratory Medicine.

The Mesothelioma Information and Resource Group [MIRG] is an organization created to assist patients,  in learning about mesothelioma and other asbestos-related injuries. MIRG provides information about the disease, its causes, its treatment and its personal and legal impact. (US based site so legal resources not applicable)

Virtual Cancer Centre is an Australian site updated weekly by doctors and specialists to provide information and research results to patients.

Mesothelioma Online Advice provides advice on mesothelioma, asbestos induced cancer, lawsuits, mesothelioma law firms, attorneys and treatment. Includes many articles on the disease and asbestos in general. (Legal resources are US based)

Multiple Sclerosis Society of Australia has information on MS for patients, family, friends and carers. There are also state branches for ACT, SA & NT, WA, NSW, Qld, Tas and Vic
